About us

Birkbeck's Centre for Museum Cultures involves academics from across various disciplines, including museology, history of art, media and culture studies, history, archaeology, English and humanities. It provides a hub for intellectual exchange and debate relating to all aspects of museology, curation and heritage.

The centre hosts an annual programme of seminars, lectures and conferences involving academics and a wide range of museum professionals, which offers opportunities for Birkbeck students to meet experts within the profession, and to engage in some of the most vital debates currently shaping the field. It also hosts an occasional reading group, whose aim is to explore readings and key ideas in the field.

This centre aims to be genuinely interdisciplinary and inclusive and welcomes participation from PhD students, museum professionals and academics interested and engaged in museum-related research.
