William Morris, widely regarded as the greatest British designer of the nineteenth century, was also author of the century’s greatest utopian fiction, News from Nowhere. What is the relationship between Morris’s utopian speculations and his designs? In this illustrated talk, Michael Robertson will explore the utopian dimensions of Morris’s life and work, including his designs for wallpaper, textiles, furniture, murals, and stained glass.
