Module description

Carried out during your final year of studies, the project offers you the opportunity to consolidate and apply your learning across the entire BSc curriculum. You will undertake an in-depth investigation into a specific area of computer science, developing a substantial software solution to address a key problem within this domain.

The module emphasises the development of professional-quality software, critical evaluation of existing approaches and effective communication of complex ideas. Working under the guidance of an experienced member of staff, you will be able to explore systems and technologies of special personal or professional interest.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • utilise your skills and knowledge of programming, network analysis, cryptography and software engineering
  • demonstrate a range of cybersecurity and computer science methods, techniques and tools
  • appraise research topics related to cybersecurity and computer science
  • develop designs for information systems targeting cyber ops
  • analyse experimental data using appropriate methods
  • plan and carry out a project with a focus on cybersecurity and computer science spanning several months
  • demonstrate abstract thinking and utilise abstraction skills
  • implement programs in appropriate programming languages
  • compose and document a design using an appropriate modelling language
  • employ a coherent cybersecurity information system development process
