Module description
In this module we introduce the theory and practice of the development of people at work. We will cover a wide range of topics including an examination of the national and organisational context for employee development, a review of some of the psychological processes influencing adult learning, examination of the training cycle and discussion of key ways in which employees are developed in contemporary organisations.

Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- understand different approaches to learning needs in an organisation, including common challenges, and the systemic nature of learning and development
- distinguish between, and apply, different theory and empirical evidence in understanding individual and team level learning needs via supportive strategies
- critically examine three key organisational frameworks and the influence of learning cultures on development
- understand the importance of working with individuals to foster employee development, including key psychological concepts
- understand the practical nature of facilitating development through coaching and training.
