Module description

This module is designed to help you consolidate your learning and demonstrate the skills required in psychosexual therapy and psychodynamic relationship theory, emphasising their application with both couples and individuals.

Additionally, you will develop your clinical practice and psychosexual treatment skills through a clinical placement or private practice which normally starts in the first term of the second year. A total of 200 supervised clinical hours are required, adhering to COSRT's ethical and clinical standards, and illustrating the therapeutic progress made with couples and individuals facing psychosexual issues.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • a critical understanding of an ethical approach to working with patients
  • awareness of complexities in therapy and how psychosexual therapy can provide a different therapeutic ending
  • knowledge and learning and your ability to practise as a psychosexual therapist
  • an understanding of the ethical considerations and legal requirements needed for private practice and clinical placements, ensuring knowledge of the COSRT Code of Ethical Practice
  • a cohesive and critical understanding of learning, theory and practice of psychosexual therapy, treatment interventions, therapeutic relationships and the effect of the trainee therapist on patients
  • a biopsychosocial model of psychosexual therapy in practice.
