Module description

In this module we focus on how to practise culturally sensitive sex therapy and work effectively with sexually diverse and neurodivergent patients. We will explore the influence of unconscious biases and examine intersectionality within the broader context of sexuality, religion and those affected by mental health, sexual trauma, chemsex, sexual compulsion, pornography, sexual violence and how they relate to sexual relationships and psychosexual conditions.

Additionally, you will gain a deeper understanding of the medical and physiological aspects of sexual function, as well as the medical and pharmacological interventions available.

  • cultural and religious groups, and the importance of intersectionality when working with sexual issues
  • how to work sensitively with survivors of childhood sexual abuse, shame, trauma, sexual violence, chemsex, porn and sexual compulsion
  • how to work sensitively with individuals and couples who identify as neurodivergent, sexually diverse, non-binary and trans
  • organic and medical factors presenting for psychosexual treatment and their physical and psychological impact on the couple or individual.
