Wirtschaftsdeutsch (Level 5)

Overview

• Credit value: 30 credits at Level 5
• Convenor and tutor: Dr Peter Damrau and Dr Eckard Michels
• Prerequisite: German 3 at Level German 3 (Level 4), German 3 (Level 5) or German 3 (Level 6) (equivalent of CEFR B2)
• Assessment: a 1000-word piece of coursework (30%), three-hour written in-class assessment (50%) and oral in-class assessment: 15-minute interview (20%)

Module description

In this module you will learn to communicate effectively in a business context, both orally and in writing, and be introduced to German business and commerce. Entirely taught in German, the module covers a wide range of topics, including:

• marketing
• trade fairs
• import/export
• tourism
• business communication.

There will also be a number of classes dealing with current economic and social affairs. For these classes you will be consulted about the choice of topics.

The teaching is based on a variety of materials, taken from specialised courses as well as the German media. All texts will be provided in class and on Moodle.
